Part 3 I am leaving some of the memorabilia inside the bag. These items may stay there physically but I know that the feeling, like how the sling touched my shoulders because of its heaviness and the memories of that landmark gathering for climate action, will not be forgotten. Okay... tama na ang drama! We still have lots of work to do during this crisis and to make this world a sustainable place to live in. 🇵🇭 @andrewsfundph
Part 2 And when it was already my chance to speak, i suddenly felt a jolt in my chest. I started getting warm and red, and, as soon as i opened my mouth, it was as if a spirit entered into me and took over. This feeling spilled over to the official turn over of that big beautiful mosaic, which Pebbles Badillo Sanchez-Ogang, who now is Yespinoy’s Executive Director (yes, dito kami unang nagkatrabaho) had handed over to me. The feeling was so magical that i couldn’t explain where the adrenalin was coming from. As Nick Perlas put it, it probably was because i had tapped my “creative self”, a part of us that we disregard 99 percent of the time, but when used, could bring us to unimaginable places. That was where i was. Unimaginable, surreal, pumped up, and hopeful. And for all these reasons, i said, “hell no, ‘di ko na ipamimigay ito”. Haha. Sentimental reasons baga. But thinking deeper, i believe there was a reason why i chose this item. Drew said, “Paps, let’s auction your pre loved items.’ But I ended up selecting items that are not pre loved, but very well loved, valued and treasured, especially this bag. Madalas, sinasabi ko na ‘yung mga gamit ko, ipamamana ko sa anak ko. Ang tanong kasi, kailan? But with this decision, i am sure that these items will serve a more purposeful need than just leaving them inside boxes for years. Besides, i know that while we have physical or material things, we don’t own them forever— what we only own are the memories, learnings and the emotions that we felt when we put these things into good use. This bag has served its purpose. Today, i am turning it over to a new owner who had won a bid for 20,000 Pesos - money that will be used to help communities in a time where material wealth seems insufficient in handling an invisible enemy that maybe humanity too had created. Grace Salvador, thank you and please take care of this bag just as how I value it. Drew, thank you for facilitating this cause. ...
I decided to take a break from my morning exercise today. Mabuti na lang because @drewarellano said that the rider would pick up our auctioned items before lunch and deliver them to their new owners. With much excitement (probably because of that Barako coffee gifted to me by...di ko na maalala, pero salamat), i gathered the items and prepared them one by one. And as I was looking at the last item— the TUMI Ducati edition bag— i kinda felt something and said to myself, while nodding, “pucha ang ganda talaga nito.” So, i opened it and started to take out the remaining things inside. A boarding pass, the PMS protocol and itinerary booklet, toothbrush, some paracetamol, a small Philippine flag pin, etc... Flashbacks started to come in. It is true that the mind mostly remembers the moments with very high emotion: happy, sad, inspired, fulfilled, or exactly what i felt during that afternoon of December 30, 2015 in Paris, France— hopeful. We were part of the Philippine Delegation to the historic 2015 United Nations Paris Climate Change Conference. I had the honor and humbling opportunity to represent the Filipino people as a National Youth Commissioner. The TUMI bag came with me all the way to Paris. I even almost left it at the lobby of our hotel because i was rushing to the train station to meet the other delagates. “Oh shit!” I said, running back to get it. But I clearly recall that whole morning where I arranged my speech, had it printed out, and was just generally very anxious and excited because it will be my first time to speak in front of world leaders in a very important forum for the world. During that forum of leaders of Climate Vulnerable countries, everything occurred as planned, well prepared and professional in the manner. So, there i was, a newbie, seated right in the middle of our decision makers, all geared up to deliver those 3.6 M signatures to the plenary, praying that i wouldn’t stutter. (to be continued)

Sa ating pagharap sa COVID-19, nakita natin ang kabayanihan ng marami sa ating mga manggagawang Pilipino mula sa ating health workers, military and police force, media, delivery men, fast food crew members, sales clerk, volunteers at iba pang frontliners. Pag-asa sa Panahon ng COVID-19 People all over the world are adapting to the many changes in their daily lives caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Adjusting to the new normal is not easy, but the Istorya ng Pag-asa team believes that we can all help one another, by doing whatever we can during and even after this crisis. We all have a part to play — may it be in a hospital, behind a cashier, security post, garbage collection truck, food delivery service, or at home with our families. No part is too small. In this global pandemic, it is important to understand that we can effect change simply by what we say, what we do and how we act. In our own small way, we too can help and create positive change. In our own way, we can be a source of kindness, inspiration and hope. Join us in spreading love, kindness and hope with #SulatNgPagasa and #SalamatSaPagasa
Dear Son, It is day 33 for us here on lockdown and day 365 for you on Earth. Normally, we would gather all our relatives and friends to celebrate this special day with you, just like how your mother and I had done it when we reached the same milestone. Though as toddlers, we never really remembered anything— thanks to the pictures that reminded us how we are loved by the people around us. But today, it’s just going to be us, Buddy— You, me, your Mother, your Ate Z, Ate Cecile, Ate Glenda and Kuya Emerson. But please know that there are many people like your cousins, grandparents, godparents and relatives who wish to see you and be with you today, probably to give a gift, a cake, or a simple tight warm hug. But not now...maybe when this is all over. When? I really don’t know, son. To be honest with you, i fear the day that you would be marching towards this new world, this new normal, that we had created for your generation. What’s happening now is a clear manifestation of our actions and inactions— and we are reaping its effects which could benefit a few, but for most...just hard learnings about humanity, the planet and spirituality. But i guess as parents, that’s what we are here for. We are here to prepare you for that jungle out there. Though there is fear, it is also you (and your sister) who give me courage to carry on and strive to make this world a sustainable place to live in. You give me the drive to make me want to be a better version of myself. And so, in as much as it should be you who should receive gifts, please know that you are the gift for us— a living reminder that we should get our acts together and ensure that when the time comes, you can freely walk the streets, breathe all the air that you want, play ball with your friends even at close distance, ride a bike, and return the hug to all your well-wishers today. This picture will always be my reminder that in times of fear and uncertainty, i had found hope—through you. Happy first birthday, Sixto. Love, Dad 161000hAPR20 PS. I hope you like your haircut. Don’t worry when the time comes, you can cut mine too! 😄
The Holy Week has brought so much hope so as the smiles and courage of our beneficiaries, and the unceasing generosity of Andrew’s Fund PH’s partners and donors. As of today, we have been successful in sharing 3600 food and rice packs to families of daily minimum wage earners in Payatas, Smokey Mountain, District 5 of Quezon City, Maisan in Sampaloc Manila, Brgy. Longos in Malabon, Barangays 149 & 154 in Pasay City, Members of the Stunt Association of the Philippines, and to marginalized communities of the Dioceses of Novaliches, Cubao and Antipolo with Marikina. In addition, 150 rice packs will be provided to the Diocese of Malolos. A total of 3,915 meals were also delivered to our frontliners from our partner hospitals - Quezon City General Hospital, Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. The efforts of Father Tito, the YPF and AF Team, the Dioceses, the Philippine Navy and our supporters continue to bring hope to our partner communities. May we always be blessed with the heart and capacity to reach out to those who are in great need especially during this COVID-19 crisis. Back in grade school, i was a drummer of an amateur rock band whose only claim to fame was winning first runner up in the school’s ‘94 Battle Of The Bands. Second out of only 2 participating groups! 🤣 Since then, I’ve always wanted to learn how to play a whole song on guitar. The farthest i’ve reached was learning 3 chords— G, D and A, mula pa sa kabanda kong magaling mag gitara. I had given up on that dream not until i saw the post of @kuyakim_atienza wanting to learn the instrument during this ECQ. So ayun, kailan pa ba ako matututo kundi ngayon?! I am grateful to my friend (and grade school classmate) for hooking me up with one of their stocks! Mabuti na lang at may on-line tutorials din for beginners like me. First on the list is for my little Buddy’s celebration this coming Thursday— ang napakahirap at napakalupet na Happy Birthday song.😆 Ikaw, ano request mo? Sharing with you an excerpt of my message during yesterday’s morning colors at the Philippine Navy Headquarters. Nasa gobyerno ka man o pribadong sektor, may katungkulan man o karaniwang namamasukan, sundalo man o isang aktor, tangan natin ang ‘puso’ ng isang bayani. Dahil araw-araw, lahat tayo ay may pagkakataong maging mabuting mamamayan. So whatever uniform we may be in today, be it your soldier’s uniform or your usual office attire, let’s not forget to put on our strongest hearts, and commit ourselves to be heroes in our own ways. I am reminded of this quote that is very close to my own heart: “Heroism lies in the nobility of committing to a way of life that focuses on goals that are greater than oneself.”
Because of your generosity and with the help of the Philippine Navy and Philippine Marines— led by BGen Ariel Caculitan PNRC— we were able to donate 1000 relief packs to evacuation centers in Balayan, Batangas namely, Pastoral Center, Canda, Tanggoy and Patugo. Each relief pack has 1 kilo of rice, 2 Megasardines, 2 instant noodles, 4 sachets of Hana Shampoo, 1 soap, 1 blanket, 2 face masks, 1 thermal blanket, 2 bottled water, and 2 packs of Doña Maria Rice Puffs.
