During this special time, all of us feel stifled in one way or the other. Those who live alone want some company, those who live with families want some time alone. It can get overwhelming and I feel you. ⁣ ⁣ Since I can’t sit at the park and look at trees to clear my mind and put space between myself and my family, I kill two birds with one stone. ⁣ ⁣ I’d start my car to get the battery running or take it out for a quick spin to make sure the tyre pressure is ok. It is recommended that you start your car battery every 3 days for about 10-15 minutes each. We don’t want alarms going off and disturbing our neighbors when the pros come and restart our dead cars. 😅 ⁣ #toyotasingapore @toyotasingapore

I received some essential oils from a friend, tips from TCM practitioners and a video of a fitness instructor on how to relieve my wry neck syndrome. I’ve applied heat pack, avoided wind on my shoulders and sunned my pillows. Thank you all for the helpful tips.❤️ Tonight my husband insist I try his ball. Ouch. Know the feeling of a stiff neck when you wake up in the morning? Yes that’s me. Many of us battle with cabin fever and exhaustion at some point during the circuit breaker. But has everyone been behaving? If we reference from other countries, we only need one person to slip up to bring about another wave. ⁣ ⁣ Dr Gordon Chiu had predicted this pandemic and in this video he shares more. Come June, we will resume some adjusted form of normalcy. But we probably won't get a peace of mind until scientists develop a vaccine. Wonder why it's taking so long? Which boils down to this question: if the virus lands on lift buttons, railings, door knobs and no one cleans it, how long does it remain infective? While we stay positive through this time, it’s also important that we aware of what we can do as a community to protect ourselves and others as we approach the end of the circuit breaker. I was determined to launch this mini-series with Dr Gordon Chiu because I get to ask a scientist questions the layman would have about COVID-19 without all the affiliations. And I break it down for you in our context so we can take actionable steps. ⁣ ⁣ Are all soaps useful? What happens if we don’t have sanitiser? To wear masks or not? I’ve never really connected with Mother’s Day because I’ve spent more years being a daughter than a mother. But today, as we continue into Day I’ve-lost-track of the circuit breaker, all I ask for is a day off from mediating squabbles and calming tantrums. This is what takes the heaviest toll on my emotional well-being. And I too need to recharge my batteries. ⁣ ⁣ Self-care is the only way we can continue to show up positively for our families. Make self-care possible for those who’ve taken on the maternal role. Give them the gift of time — relieve them of chores, kids or whatever it is they are busy with so they can use the time to nap, take a long bath, practice aromatherapy etc. ⁣ ⁣ And to mothers around the world who are coping with tribulations, pain and separation of all kinds, some unimaginable for us here in Singapore, I’m sending you love and support to pull through it. Cheering everyone on this Mother’s Day. ❤️

Often we feel the need to fill up every bit of time with something. Being busy is like a badge of honour, a symbol of our productivity and provides justification of a good use of time. But if we look at the plants and animals, we’d realise that they aren’t busy all year round.⁣ ⁣ We haven’t got the seasons in Singapore, or daylight saving time to motivate a change in our habits, and so we charge on whether it’s weekday, weekends or holidays — there’s always something we need to do, someplace we need to go. ⁣🏍🚲🛩⛵️🚗🚕🚌🛴 ⁣ ⁣⁣ The truth is our skin and body follows a rhythm too and if we pay more attention to it, we can harness it to our advantage. Many of us grow up with the scarcity mindset — fear that there’s not enough to go round; fear that someday we might use that _____ (fill in the blank) even though it’s been collecting dust. ⁣ ⁣ If we look deeper within ourselves, we’d find this mindset manifesting in other ways. On holidays — better eat more now cos the bus ride is very long; better bring more clothes in case cold; and most recently — better stock up more cos’ CB extended. It’s the just-in-case mentality and our innate need to survive. ⁣ ⁣ However, there are areas we can work on to combat this mindset which gave birth to today’s final challenge.⁣ ⁣ I never want to throw anything away. And I usually avoid dealing with it by shoving it out of sight or leaving it there until it gets in my way. The last time I tried Marie Kondo’s method, I managed to declutter my wardrobe. It took me a few days but I felt much lighter after that. So here is one piece of clothing that I feel I should keep but doesn’t really evoke joy. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Join me as we clear our way to a new week! I maintain my skin & body health through mindful eating so I can go make up, filter and DI free.⁣ ⁣ I am confident you can too if you change your habits. So let’s start from the basics of eating. Do you eat while doing something else — like scrolling through your phone/watching something on your device/reading/driving/walking/answering emails/doing work etc? 🙋🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ When u do that, u’ve no idea how the food taste, what it REALLY looks like before going into your mouth and whether u’re eating more than u really need. For those wondering how I maintain my physique, here’s the thing — I would do body combat in my hotel room when I was filming overseas; I ran frequently, then I did pre-natal yoga and post-natal Pilates. And now I do a mixture of workouts. ⁣ ⁣ We need to strengthen our core and lower body not just to look good but more importantly to avoid hip, knee and joint problems that will come as we get older. Because that’s how our entire body is supported. Many people are posting workout challenges for a reason — because they also make us feel better. This challenge can be as simple or as difficult as you want it to be. Swipe left for demos if you need and work up a sweat! #stayhomewithjp #positivevibes

My mom taught me the importance of the 3Rs since young — recycle, reuse and reduce. She never throws anything out until we’ve fully utilized it. When I was little, we made pencil holders from magazines, paper flowers and she’d use the back of bills to teach me Math. Now she folds paper boxes for chicken bones from magazines/newspapers. So today’s challenge is inspired by my mom — what can you do with paper? I made a rabbit hat. ⁣ ⁣ I’m sure everyone has this at home — so there’s no excuse not to do this one. Here’s one thing you don’t know about me — I feel insecure about my ability to dance. I think I am uncoordinated. I envy those who can dance really well and I am generally shy when it comes to moving my body. But I have been challenging myself to get out of my comfort zone year after year. I envy those who can dance really well and I am generally shy when it comes to moving my body. But I have been challenging myself to get out of my comfort zone year after year. I think of different people all the time and keep them in my hearts, wondering how they’re doing and if they’re happy. Working from home for me means continuously staring at the computer, scripting, shooting, editing videos for the preschool mandarin virtual class I’m conducting online; no commuting time to zone out or listen to favourite podcasts, and even longer working hours with fewer breaks. But it’s not like that everyday. Some days I work more some days less. There is no perfect day, I just keep them mindful. How’s your WFM like? 🤩 #stayhome #mindfulliving

It’s not always perfect in our household but one thing we always agree is that we have to communicate — even if the conversations starts with a lot of fire. It’s part of the process of working things through. The advice used to be don’t go to bed angry — but really I think sleep is crucial. When you are well rested, you are in a better state to behave calmly and to identify what the real source of conflict is. With many of you now staying home and being in close proximity to one another, there may be more friction — just remember to take a step back, breathe and shake it off. In traditional families, the elders never share their woes, they don’t want their children to worry and take full responsibility for their children’s well-being. Today as I sat down for a quick chat with @gandavid_davidgan before Passion closes for the month — I felt a surge of emotion for his incredible grit and strength. By the end of it, I really wanted to hug him but we had to keep our distance. Looking at his beautiful massive salon, and all the people working there — it must not be easy being in his shoes (or boots) but who knows? Who cares what he had to go through to get here? I do, and with a lot of admiration and respect. Now is the time to rest and recover — for there’ll be bigger challenges waiting for us when we return. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻#stayhome

Feeling stressed? Maybe this might help — putting periods of the day on airplane mode. I don’t travel these days but I find being unavailable for a couple of hours does wonders for my productivity and sanity. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, this is one of the things you can try — imagine what you’d do if you had to take a 2.5 hour flight — pick your favourite movie, read a book/magazine, finish that report, write a letter to a friend, knit, crochet, sleep. Whatever it is, take this time to shut off from social media, news and treat yourself kindly. 💚 #positivevibes

Sending smiles and sunshine your way this rainy evening! 🌞⁣ ⁣ Our feed is getting populated by the global pandemic and it has become impossible to shut it out. While we try to stay calm and rational, it will at some point cause us stress and fear. You may notice that tensions are rising — at home, at work, at school — as I have seen in one of my group chats over the weekend. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The topic of conflict often isn’t the real issue, it’s this new situation and it’s effect on us that is changing the way we react and respond. Just think about how much more hyper sensitive we are when someone coughs now. So as we maintain our social distance and stay home as much as possible, it is normal and ok to be scared. Instead of fighting it or pretending you feel fine when you don’t, acknowledge that emotion and discuss it with someone you trust. Ask for help and support for strength and positivity. I tan easily and this used to stress me out because our industry places so much emphasis on looking fair and radiant. But I’ve since come to terms with the fact that I do not have porcelain fair skin and that shift in mindset has been liberating. Studying is what I’ve been doing this period. It began with my research into a new role that I would be taking on in June which then led me to discover a topic that isn’t exactly very pleasant — one that involves mental issues and youths around the world. ⁣ ⁣ Many young people who suffer from mental illness don’t know they need help and unfortunately usually behave in a way that doesn’t invite concern from others. A lack of concern therefore makes them feel alone. And something that began really small can spiral into something massive. Who can they speak to when they feel negative? That is if they can even trust someone with it; or muster the strength to find someone to talk to. Some may have tried but someone took advantage, laughed or brushed it aside. It pains me to read about the consequences young people have to bear as a result of a lack of early intervention. If only is not good enough. My wish is for the next generation of children to be surrounded by love as they navigate the challenges of life, not suffer alone. ⁣ ⁣ We focus so much on physical health in schools, but perhaps we should include mental health into the curriculum. But until then, when someone behaves in a way vastly different from us, or appears to be rather aggressive/destructive, let’s not judge and hate. We don’t know what they’re going through and sometimes a compassionate word of concern, or a joke, might just be what they need snap out of the vicious cycle. And for any of you who feels that nobody understands you, know that it is NOT TRUE. 💚 #spreadlove #youarenotalone ⁣

We focus so much on physical health in schools, but perhaps we should include mental health into the curriculum. But until then, when someone behaves in a way vastly different from us, or appears to be rather aggressive/destructive, let’s not judge and hate. We don’t know what they’re going through and sometimes a compassionate word of concern, or a joke, might just be what they need snap out of the vicious cycle. The March holidays are here. For parents with children who are usually active, a lack of physical activity during this period could result in temperamental outbreaks that can be emotionally exhausting for parents and caregivers. While I try to stay home and limit social activities, I also realize that young children need their Vitamin D, sensorial stimulations and gross motor development. Nature and the outdoors not only provide that but also have an amazing calming effect on our emotions. Which was why I decided to make a special trip last weekend to Sentosa to give my children a change of scenery. They found new ingredients to “cook” in the sand (make-belief), had a chance to eat something other than home cooked food at Sand Bar (real F&B outlet) and saw a live moving chrysalis at the Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom! ⁣ ⁣ With the new travel restrictions in place, restricting children at home during the March holidays can be tough. There are leisure options and if you want to have a good time and happy children, it is possible to do so while still keeping safe — by seeing a doctor if you are unwell, washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and keeping the appropriate distance from people in public. ⁣ ⁣ In the meantime Sentosa is offering free entry from now to 30th June, and a menu of different activities for you to take your pick. If Ellen Degeneres is going to judge me by the car I drive (swipe left for her quote) then I am proud to say that mine comes from a corporation that uses the well known Just-In Time system that is studied worldwide. Through this lean manufacturing system, and the principle of “jidoka” (automation with human touch), the increased efficiency of the Toyota Production System not only reduces costs but also unnecessary wastage that can arise from excess inventory, extraneous processing steps, and defective products. In this insta-social world, we sometimes forget to look up and take the time to see the beauty around us and appreciate it for what it truly is rather than what we THINK it is. We forget to be grateful for the basic things we enjoy like clean air, clean water, clean roads and the beautiful scene in front of us. We forget to make friends and build relationships through respectful conversations. Talking and listening broadens my perspectives and opens my heart allowing me to learn more about what isn’t said rather than what is said, because social media doesn’t always provide the right context for the latter. Thank you Minister Shanmugam, for your wise words shared through a poem (it’s by Kipling called “If”). I’m grateful that I can walk the streets alone at night and my neighborhood is punctuated by sounds of cars and laughing children, not gunshots and sirens. #givethanks #gratitude #lovingkindness

I often think about people whose paths I briefly crossed and I met this uncle while filming “Say Cheese” a couple years back, because we frequented this coffee shop at Toh Guan. I thought all rojaks are created equal but apparently this uncle has the BEST vegetarian rojak that I couldn’t find anywhere else after. So today, I had to go look for him, and I’m so happy to see that he’s in good health. I haven’t got a picture of the rojak cos it went straight into my mouth when it arrived, so you just have to take my word for it. I think it’s 278 Toh Guan but if anyone knows for sure please comment below. For the sake of those who are vegetarian and love rojak. 😋😋😋

Is this dress green or is it blue? Turquoise or cyan? This jolted memories of the white/gold, blue/black dress and the pink/white, grey/teal sneakers debate couple of years ago. Now swipe to the end and tell me is the girl turning clockwise or anti-clockwise? Or both? Exercise is an important part of my regular routine since I was in my teens because I found it the best way to combat lethargy and negativity. It gives me more energy, increases my ability to focus and of course gives me a stronger physique. I was working on my laptop all afternoon before slapping it shut at 6pm and announcing suddenly to the family that I’m going to get ready for a date night with my husband, @qiyuwu, who was at that time busy in the kitchen cooking topless. He said, looking very puzzled, How come I don’t know?” but I had ran off to shower, put myself in a tight white dress and with the help of my daughter picked out a lip colour to have dinner at our dining table. Yes our date could be anywhere, though we did have to put the children to bed before we could sip wine and talk uninterrupted but you see we make time, and you always will when someone is important enough. Sending lots of ❤️ through this V-Day!

The key to our relationship is to communicate. That is after first building it on shared values. Thank you for all the well wishes and concern! ❤️ Some locals have returned to work even as the Chinese government extended the CNY holiday and we were able to complete the matter that was left unfinished. Now we can return to Singapore. We are all healthy and well and my heart is full with all the love and care from friends and family. Thank you! 🛫 #qitravelmoments

This Chinese New Year is unlike any other year. The Wuhan virus has caused widespread fear as people stay indoors and avoid visiting; masks, antibacterial sprays are sold out; restaurants are peddling raw ingredients outside their premise because no one is patronizing. While I am thankful that family is together in spite of the circumstances, my spirits are dampened by what we are hearing and watching in the news. Today’s weather in Guangzhou is beautiful, sunny and pretty cold, so even though our hearts are burdened by the uncertain nature of what’s happening, my husband and I squeezed out time to take a walk, just the two of us, because tomorrow, he’d be flying back to Singapore while I remain here with the children to finish up some personal matters. To all who are separated from your loved ones, it isn’t a great feeling but stay strong, be safe and keep the light shining in your heart 💛. #qitravelmoments

We went strawberry picking since my son loves strawberries and this gave him a chance to practice those fine motor skills while my daughter saw how the strawberry plants bore fruit. With the coronavirus outbreak, we are limiting our activities here in Guangzhou which is dampening the Chinese New Year mood. Nonetheless, here’s wishing all who are celebrating Chinese New Year, a wonderful reunion with your family today. ❤️

It’s hard not to be happy basking in all this red and gold! Since I started my own family, I always make it a habit to head down to Chinatown before CNY, to get our couplets written, to shop for new decorations and to get some gold coins!
