Today marks the beginning of #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth. We’ll be lending our platform to Laverne Delgado, Executive Director of @freedomandfashion, one of our partner organizations that uses fashion and beauty to empower survivors of domestic abuse and other acts of violence. Domestic abuse was already an epidemic before COVID-19, but there has been a horrific spike in cases since the pandemic began. This means Freedom + Fashion’s work is more important than ever. Follow along in our stories as @loveverne, a survivor of domestic violence herself, takes us through a day of her work 🤍
So many of you loved the VOTE bracelet that @weworewhat wore yesterday so we want to share more about the two sisters behind it! @hiddengemny is a sister-owned small business featuring multi-cultural products made by local artisans as well as handmade products from around the world. Tanya and Temidra were both born and raised in the Hamptons and wanted to create a space where they and other up and coming artists could share their work and culture. “With inspirations drawn from the shores of Antigua to the dunes of Montauk, this Black-owned business is unlike anything else the Hamptons now has to offer.”
All of this and more is on the line this November. It is essential for the fate of our country that we all show up and make sure our votes are counted. According to @mandanadayani, the founder of @iamavoter, the best option to make sure your vote is counted is to go early and in-person (please take all safety precautions necessary!). If you have any other questions about how to register, deadlines, making a voting plan, etc. @iamavoter is an AMAZING resource. (💭by @renewalmill and design by @roseleopold 🤍)
We’re so proud of our WGW volunteers - led by our amazing volunteer coordinator @ariella_rusoff - for closing out @foodbank4nyc’s 5 Borough Pop Up Tour over the weekend with their largest distribution yet! “In partnership with Alianza de Futbol at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, we distributed fresh produce, pantry items, and household goods to nearly 1,000 families, reaching almost 5,000 New Yorkers in need– our largest pop-up distribution of #HungerActionMonth!⠀ Queens has been one of the hardest-hit boroughs in NYC, with 16% soup kitchens and food pantries being closed and unemployment rising to 20.5% (6 times what it was last year). We are so grateful to our #HungerActionMonth partner @seamless @grubhub, @starbucks, @nysci, @alianzadefutbol, and @wegavewhat for helping us meet the rising need in New York City.” Head over to our “Volunteer” Highlights reel to watch Ariella’s IG takeover of the day!
@riverfundny needs our help! Before the pandemic they would host monthly baby showers for all the new moms in their community. Because of COVID, they have been pre-packaging bags of baby supplies to hand out instead. This has been a really rough time for some of the moms they work with - a few have lost their husbands and are relying on @riverfundny for extra support. Here is a list of supplies you can donate for the moms! Please DM @ariella_rusoff to coordinate 🤍
Good morning fam 🤍 Taking a second to acknowledge all the amazing small business owners in this community who wear a million hats. We see you - you’ve got this 👏 Hope everyone has a good week 🥰 (Artwork by @allyblaireco)
Introducing the perfect charcuterie board 😍 Lauren is the founder of @lecharcuteries, a NJ/NY based service specializing in grazing boards and tables. All products used are organic and natural as well as edible flowers and herbs from a local store. “The reason I started this business is because of my mom, who taught me at a young age the importance of hosting events and sharing food with loved ones. My mother is an actual cheese connoisseur so my inspiration truly comes from her.”
CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS! We are so excited to announce our partnership with Home From College, a digital platform and community that launched during the pandemic to support students throughout their college journey (especially during this crazy time). We will be working with @homefromcollege on creating GIGS (short-term projects) both for WeGaveWhat and the nonprofits and small businesses in our community. We’re so excited to give all of the young people on this platform a way to give back AND to give our small business and non-profit partners this access to such a wide net of amazing, talented and compassion students. Our first gig will be specifically with our team, helping to create and build out a WeGaveWhat campus ambassador program. If you’re interested in learning more, head over to their website! If you’re a non-profit or small business that needs short-term help on a specific project in the future, please DM us 🤍
